Our mission

Human gestation, beyond the human body.

Amnia's mission is to make complete extrauterine gestation possible: supporting human development from conception through birth within a safe, adaptive artificial womb. We are not building a better incubator; we are working toward a full gestational platform that can recreate the changing biological conditions a developing child depends on.

This is one of the hardest problems science and engineering have ever attempted. It will not be solved by a single invention, but through a long sequence of discoveries, built, observed, measured, and redesigned one generation at a time. Our timelines are targets, not guarantees.

  • A long-term scientific program, pursued openly and in stages
  • Measurable milestones, not promises about a finish date
  • Every limitation we uncover becomes the next research problem

Radically safe

Redundant life support, real-time monitoring, and instant clinical response designed to eliminate whole categories of complication.

Radically inclusive

Parenthood without the physical toll or biological barrier, accessible to anyone who dreams of raising a child.

Radically transparent

Development you can watch, understand, and be part of, every day, from the very first cell.

How it works

One continuous journey, four gentle stages.

Amnia recreates the biochemical, thermal, and sensory world of the womb, then improves on it with precision no body can match.

  1. 01

    Conception & implantation

A protected micro-environment supports fertilization and the earliest cell divisions with clinically perfect nutrient balance.

  2. 02

    Placental exchange

Our synthetic placenta oxygenates blood and delivers nutrition through a closed, sterile loop: no infection, no rejection.

  3. 03

    Growth & sensory bonding

Warmth, gentle motion, and a parent's recorded voice create the familiar, comforting world a developing child expects.

  4. 04

    Transition to arms

When the moment is right, a calm, guided delivery brings your child safely into the world, and into your embrace.

Technology

Biology, met by engineering.

Every system inside Amnia is modelled on the body, then made measurable, redundant, and observable in real time.

A futuristic biotech facility with long clean rows of translucent artificial womb pods, each glowing with a soft amber light in a bright, sterile clinical laboratory

A synthetic placenta that thinks like a body.

Our membrane oxygenator mirrors the heart and lungs of natural circulation, sensing, adjusting, and delivering exactly what a developing child needs, sub-second by sub-second. Engineered under research-grade conditions and validated against the standards of neonatal medicine, and built to be identical, redundant, and observable, pod after pod.

Synthetic placenta

A membrane oxygenator that mirrors natural gas and nutrient exchange with sub-second responsiveness.

Living amniotic loop

Continuously purified, temperature-locked amniotic fluid: sterile, buoyant, and perfectly composed.

Adaptive AI guardian

An always-on model watches 1,024 signals, anticipating needs long before they become risks.

Sensory cocoon

Modulated warmth, sound, and movement recreate the reassuring rhythms of a mother's body.

Redundant life support

Triple-redundant power, oxygen, and filtration, because there is no acceptable single point of failure.

Parent companion app

See your child grow in real time, hear their heartbeat, and send your voice, from anywhere.

The plan

Milestones, not promises.

Full exogenesis will be reached, if it is reached, through a sequence of discoveries, not one breakthrough. Each stage teaches us what the next requires, and no stage is treated as certain until the evidence proves it. The dates below are targets, not guarantees. See the detailed regulatory & compliance roadmap for how FDA, EMA, and ethics approvals gate every step.

  1. 2026–27Now

    Foundations of artificial gestation

Establish the core research program: artificial amniotic environments, microfluidic gas and nutrient exchange, placental-interface modelling, and the sensor architecture that underpins everything else.

  2. 2027–29

    Artificial placental exchange

Build systems that reproduce selected placental functions (low-resistance oxygen and CO₂ exchange, nutrient and waste transfer, and blood-safe circulation) and demonstrate stable support in preclinical models.

  3. 2029–31

    Extended fetal support

Integrate the artificial placenta with a fluid gestational environment: maintaining circulation without conventional ventilation, supporting organ maturation, and studying long-term developmental outcomes.

  4. 2031–34

    Earlier-stage support

Move beyond late-fetal support toward earlier development, recreating early placental signalling and identifying which maternal biological signals are essential and which can be engineered.

  5. 2034–37

    Implantation & placentation

Address the central challenge of complete exogenesis: supporting development before a mature placental circulation exists, through synthetic endometrial environments, controlled placental formation, and immune tolerance.

  6. 2037–40

    Conception-to-birth platform

Combine implantation, placentation, fetal support, and birth-transition into one experimental platform, with redundant safety systems and the ethical and regulatory groundwork for any future human application.

  7. 2040+

    Clinical translation

Human application would begin only after extensive evidence of safety, developmental normality, and clear medical benefit: first to rescue pregnancies that cannot safely continue, and to prevent extreme-prematurity injury.

Value along the way

Useful long before the womb exists.

Complete ectogenesis is the north star, but reaching it is not decades of waiting for a single miracle. Amnia is a portfolio of discoveries, and every stage is designed to produce something medically useful on its own: new treatments, diagnostics, research platforms, and neonatal devices that reach patients, and the market, long before the final system exists. Our commitment is simple: every discovery on the path to complete ectogenesis must improve life before complete ectogenesis is achieved.

The Living Placenta

Recreate placental exchange, signalling, and vascular development, beginning with a placenta-on-a-chip that tests which medicines are safe in pregnancy. Plausibly Amnia's first commercial product, years before any whole-womb system.

The Synthetic Endometrium

Engineer a vascularised, hormone-responsive uterine lining. On the way it becomes a research platform for fertility, IVF success, endometriosis, and recurrent miscarriage: real gains in reproductive medicine.

The Fluid Gestational Environment

A sterile, fluid-filled chamber that supports development without premature breathing. Its first clinical use is the most credible one: a gentler bridge for extremely premature infants, reducing ventilator injury.

The Gestational Intelligence System

Measure and model what healthy development actually looks like, delivering better fetal monitoring, new fetal-distress biomarkers, and a digital gestational twin that supports clinicians in high-risk pregnancies today.

The Continuity Protocol

Safely connect conception, implantation, placentation, fetal support, and birth into one uninterrupted process, advancing neonatal resuscitation, cord management, and fetal-surgery transfer well before the full sequence exists.
